This is our Vamplit Blog competition for Bloody Hearts Valentines Day Blog Hop and was provided by Dr A. G. Stenson, our resident geek. I asked him to come up with a vampire inspired brain teaser and this was his idea of a family joke as I couldn’t get the answer even with a calculator!
The winner will be the first person to answer the question correctly before the 16th February 2012 and they will receive a Vamplit t-shirt as the prize. Enter the competition by leaving your answer in the comments.

As is traditional among vampires, eight weeks after he had been bitten, Gerald the newly transformed vampire was introduced to the lineage of vampires linking him to The First Vampire. Gerald was fascinated by the tales of persecution by humans and the ways vampires had found to hunt and kill their prey. When he was introduced to The First Vampire, although he knew it was rude to ask someone’s age, he couldn’t help himself.
‘How long have you been a vampire?’ he heard himself asking.
The First Vampire, being a mischievous soulless soul, replied, ‘Your maker has been a vampire for as many years as you have been one in lunar cycles. His maker has been a vampire for as many years as you and your maker have been vampires in lunar months. His maker has been a vampire for four times as long as him and his maker, my vampire son, has been a vampire three times as long as him. To know my age as a vampire, you must take the number of lunar months you have all been vampires, that is how many years I have fed on human blood.”
Gerald had always been good at mathematics and his ability had not diminished following his transformation. All he could exclaim was, ‘Wow,’ as he worked it out.
