FRIDAY FLASH

Organizer: Wendy Howard

What is Friday Flash, or should I say #fridayflash?

Friday Flash is an Internet meme designed to increase your visibility as a fiction writer. The idea is simple enough. Write a piece of flash fiction, defined as 1000 words or less, post it to your blog, and then on Friday announce it to the world via Twitter or some other social network along with the link to your post. More on #fridayflash webwite…

Yes, there is an actual group organizing this event and the Vamplit authors and contributors participate every Friday here in this blog, in our own blogs, on Twitter, on Facebook and at the #fridayflash website. This page will help you get started so you can join us each week.

How to be a Contributor

WRITE YOUR STORY: Write a story, 1000 words or less. Poetry is also accepted. We follow a theme every month with a weekly prompt and most of the contributors to the blog follow it, although it is not required. Check our weekly #fridayflash You Should Read post for the current and following weeks’ topics. Our contributors also receive periodic emails to let them know upcoming themes and prompts. NOTE: Anything you’ve previously written qualifies for #fridayflash, so don’t feel like you have to produce a new story every week.

POST YOUR STORY ON YOUR BLOG: Post your story on your blog Thursday evening or Friday at any time.

WE’LL POST YOUR STORY HERE: If you have access to post on this blog, add your story and schedule it to post Friday at 12:00 A.M. GMT or later. If you don’t have access to the blog, Wendy or Gaynor will post it for you. We have a list of our contributor’s blogs and visit them on Thursday evenings and all day Friday to copy and paste stories into the Vamplit Blog. Or, you can email your story as an email or a Rich Text Format (RTF) attachment to vamplitepub at gmail dot com.

ADD YOUR STORY TO THE FRIDAY FLASH FEEDER: Go to the Friday Flash Feeder on the fridayflash.org website and click on the #fridayflash graphic under The Collector in the upper right column. Use the Insert New Item tab on the Friday Flash Collector page to add information about your story. Please include a link to your personal blog and not to the Vamplit Blog unless you do not have a blog. This is one of the ways for the community to find stories so they can drop by the writers’ blogs to read and comment.

TWEET A LINK TO YOUR STORY: Tweet a link to your story on your blog and/or here. Suggest you do both, but remember that if you posted your story here, an automatic link to your story here will post via the @vamplit Twitter account. You can tweet a link to your story multiple times starting Friday and continuing through the weekend.

POST A LINK TO YOUR STORY ON FACEBOOK: There is a #fridayflash Facebook page where you can add a link to you story as well. This is just another way to share story links and find stories to read.

READ OTHER PARTICIPANTS STORIES: As previously mentioned, there are three ways to find the Friday Flash community’s stories to read and comment on: 1) Search for “#fridayflash” and/or “#fridayflash horror” on Twitter, 2) Search for stories in the Friday Flash Feeder, 3) Find stories on the #fridayflash Facebook page. Read as many stories as you can and leave a comment. We are also a very supportive group here in the Vamplit Blog and take the time to read each others’ stories throughout the following week.

TELL EVERYONE ABOUT THE STORIES YOU LOVED: We are especially interested in showcasing the best flash fiction and poetry in our weekly #fridayflash You Should Read issue. Drop by our weekly issue and leave a link in the comments to any horror stories you enjoyed in other blogs. Also retweet authors’ tweets on stories you’ve read and enjoyed as a curtsey. Our Vamplit Facebook page is another place you can add a link to the stories you loved.

USE THE SOCIAL NETWORKING BUTTONS: Use the social networking buttons on a blog post, especially on the Vamplit Blog, to spread the word about stories you’ve read. We are finding that most of our new traffic to the blog has come from Reddit and StumbleUpon posts to our stories.

SPEND TIME ON THE #FRIDAYFLASH WEBSITE: Check out the fridayflash.org website, join the forum to meet some fabulous writers.

ASK QUESTIONS: The comments are open on this page, so please, please, please ask questions. We have some expert social networkers here at Vamplit Publishing. LET US HELP YOU SUCCEED.

    I have 2 questions.

1 – is the flash theme posted above for last week, or this week? If I were to try to get something to you for this Friday, 1-20-12, the topic would be “Circus Acts”, correct?

2 – Can I post the flash on my Website, or does it have to be a Blog?

    Thanks for your time,

    -Rob

Hi Princess, at the risk of sounding as thick as a whale sandwich, how exactly do I post a story for the Friday Flash? Love and Hugs Darling. XXX

We can do this the easy way Randall email it to me or Wendy on a Thursday and we’ll post it for you. Also can we post your Vampires of the British Isles posts here too. The group.se site is closing in the next few weeks and I’d love it if we could post them here.

Best to send it to vamplitepub@gmail.com where both Gaynor and I can get at it.

      Great to have you back!
